MARCH 2011

»Kristine Drinovsky, the General Manager of Peninsula Wellness Center, Monterey California reports that the community has turned out in force for the weekend “sneak peeks” of the new center which opens in early May, 2011.  An affiliate of Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, PWC is the area´s first hospital affiliated wellness center and is eagerly being anticipated to fill a vital role in the extension of the Hospital´s mission to provide expanded prevention, wellness and ambulatory care.

 

**MARCH, 2011 UPDATE:: Finishes are being installed in the Wellness Center with the primary activities being flooring, casework, and tile installation.  The pools are scheduled to be plastered this month, and filled with water the same day. Furniture and exercise equipment installation is scheduled to begin the first few days of April.  Public opening of the retail fitness center is scheduled for May 3.

»HPA´s Managing Partner, Mark Nadel, FACHE recently announcedthe winner of the annualHPA award for excellence in Wellness Center Management given to the individual who best exemplifies our values, talents and mission. Formerly, this was known as the “Partner’s Award” but in tribute to the late Beverly J. Slavic, COO of Healthplex Associates and one of its founders, the award has been renamed the “Beverly J. Slavic Award for Excellence”. In December, Nadel announced that the award was given to Denis Talini, General Manager of the Upson Regional Medical Cente′s Wellness Center. Denis has been the Director since the Center´s opening and has recently taken on responsibility for HPA´s professional recruitment function as well as having been named the Corporation´s Quality Assurance Officer.



»Dave Flench, General Manager at The Sarasota Healthplex Fitness Center represented HPA at the Medical Fitness Association´s 2010 Annual Conference where the “Smart Moves” program at the Healthplex was recognized with the MFA Program Innovation Award.  “Smart Moves” is an integrative program developed by the Sarasota Healthplex Fitness Center in collaboration with Dr. Bernard Feinberg, a Parkinson Disease patient himself and Dr. Dean Sutherland, a Parkinson Disease Specialist.  “Smart Moves” activities include aquatic therapy, gentle yoga, tai chi, acupuncture, massage, ballroom dancing, nutritional counseling, and art therapy. Activities are designed to provide a safe environment for people to work on ambulation, range of motion and strengthening with an emphasis on posture, balance and movement.
